Passion helps you reach the destination. Humility helps you become a better traveller.

For a long time, I believed that to achieve something meaningful in life, one had to be intense.

Be passionate.

Be aggressive.

Always stay on your toes.

Many successful people appear to live like this, so naturally we start believing that this is the only way to grow.

But over the years, I have begun to question this assumption.

What if humility is not just a moral virtue? What if it is actually a more efficient way of living?

When we work with aggression, we are constantly resisting something. We are trying to prove ourselves, defend our opinions, reach somewhere faster than others or control outcomes.

Even if nobody notices it from outside, our body does.

The mind remains alert all the time. Stress quietly becomes a part of our personality. We may achieve more in a shorter period, but our body pays part of the price.

Humility creates a different state.

It does not reduce your effort. It changes the way you make that effort.

You still work hard. You still aim high. But there is less friction inside.

You are no longer fighting every situation.

This difference may look small, but over years it compounds.

There is another hidden advantage.

Aggression makes us outcome-oriented. Humility makes us learning-oriented.

When our attention is fixed only on the target, everything else becomes secondary. We ignore ideas that don't match our thinking. We reject feedback more easily. We overlook opportunities simply because we were looking somewhere else.

Our vision becomes narrow.

Humility keeps the mind open.

An open mind learns continuously. It is comfortable saying, "I may be wrong."

That single sentence can teach us more than years of trying to prove that we are right.

Ironically, the humble person may learn much faster than the aggressive one.

And in the long run, learning usually beats intensity.

Humility also gives something that is difficult to measure but extremely valuable—freedom.

When your ego is not attached to one particular method, you can change your approach.

When your identity is not attached to one opinion, you can change your mind.

When your self-worth is not dependent on winning every argument, you can simply smile and move on.

Life becomes lighter.

You stop carrying unnecessary baggage.

There is another thought that keeps coming back to me.

Aggression usually revolves around "I".

I want to win.

I want to succeed.

I want recognition.

There is nothing wrong with these thoughts. Every human being has them.

But they also make us the centre of every story.

Humility slowly shifts the perspective.

Instead of asking, "How do I grow?", we begin asking, "How does the entire system grow, with me being a part of it?"

That small shift changes many decisions.

We interfere less.

We compare less.

We judge less.

We naturally start living by a simple principle—live and let live.

And perhaps humility has one more level beyond this.

At some point, even the "I" starts becoming less important.

You no longer define yourself by fixed identities.

You no longer keep saying, "This is me," or "This is impossible for me."

Many of our limitations are not imposed by the world. They are created by the image we have built about ourselves.

As this image becomes lighter, possibilities become larger.

You become free to learn anything.

Free to become anything.

Free to choose a completely different direction if life demands it.

That, to me, is the ultimate freedom.

Interestingly, this state is also highly efficient.

Very little energy is spent protecting the ego.

Almost all of it becomes available for observing, learning, creating and contributing.

Perhaps that is why truly wise people often appear calm.

Not because they lack ambition.

But because they have discovered a way of growing without constantly fighting life.

Maybe humility is not the opposite of success.

Maybe it is one of the most sustainable paths to it.

2 min

Show your best।

(How To become a God)

जो ' Ego' हैं I

Delay in marriage - Indian scenario

In India, some saints or seers says that if lord Shani has dristi ( sight) on your 7th house the marriage will be delayed.

The current aspirational India is seeing people devoting their 24-25 years of life to education and then another 3-5 years in finding job and achieving financial independence. This is one of the cause of rise in average marriage age in India.

I am of opinion that after this settling down financially also, people are taking much time to find the partner. The reason being that divorce is still seen as something taboo or socially awkward. The marriage is still seen as one time activity in Indian youth which is creating tremendous pressure to make a right decision.

Many a times people are faltering after years of relationship before marriage on grounds that we are great together but our families are different, it is not practical and others.

As a society we take pride in our long lasting marriages and tightly knitted families, but somewhere it is stopping or slowing down our choices. A safety net which is acting as cage many a times.

Mono eating - One task

 Listen at -  https://open.spotify.com/episode/1t2p1obTGSfk8UBxknv4Fc?si=5dRan5arQImJnQAt7ufl6g

Mono eating is next best thing to fasting and doing one thing at a time is next best thing to mediation.

Multi tasking or eating lot of things or flavors together gives a feeling of getting full, satisfied, accomplished, but.
When you eat a lot of different kind of food together your stomach has to work harder, and when you multi-task your brain has to put in more effort.

Though all this gives you more output and it seems like a formulae for being successful but this is like driving your car at high speed though you cover more distance the efficiency is low.

It is a short term measure which is less efficient.

How HR can inculcate passion in employees?

 Listen at https://open.spotify.com/episode/4QHbmZZouL63sv3wtRSIqn?si=uJp4d8gOQbOdgLKGf5Y6SA

Motivation is considered one of the pillars of HR functions. The passionate employees are self motivated and makes the managers work easy.

The passion is like blinders, it makes you focus and concentrate your energy on one task. This concentrated energy seldom fails and give great results.
For an analogy, you can think of childhood experiment where school children are given magnifying glass to concentrate the sunlight at a point in paper and get astonished watching it burn.

How HR can achieve this? So key it to focus energy. The job profiling or work allocation has to be simple, try giving higher goal which can be defined in a line rather than giving long list of responsibilities and tasks. As soon as employee reads a long list his energy dissipation starts, and passion becomes just to wait for day or task to end.

Krishna Consciousness - Hanuman bhakti - Team work

The Gita Chapter 2 verse 39, talks about buddhi-yoga, or karma-yoga, or in other words, the practice of devotional service only for the sense gratification of the Lord.

The lord Hanuman, great Ram bhakt, in hanuman chalisa is mentioned as - राम काज करिबे को आतुर (he is eager to complete Lord Ram works).

In present day, in all management lessons the importance of team work in paramount.

In a nut shell, it prevents you from failure and success of your work. You do not burden yourself with result and focus on your work. This increases your productivity and results.

Multitasking leads to multi-emotion

The kind for pace we all are living, multitasking has become essential and necessary. We all are moving with our eyes or fingers on mobile screen, taking calls, listening to music on the go is new normal.

However, our mind is becoming used to this pace even when we are more in emotional zone and experiencing emotions. Which is actually leading to multiple emotions at the same time and instead of taking decision and sticking to any one, mind is able to keep all emotions fluctuating at the same time.

This culture or habit of multi- tasking or multi-emotion is actually the biggest stress causer and decision hampering factor.

How to generate time?

What is the need?

We all are regularly saying things like – ‘Let’s do this, we don’t have enough time for that.’, or ‘Time is short’, ‘Time is money’, ‘pull up our socks’, ‘timeline is today’, ‘by EOD’.

This leads us to keep speeding up and burning ourselves.

What if we can generate time and do lot of things, things which we are keeping on back burner – spending time with kids, going for holiday, to read that book, to talk to old friends, to call parents.

Answer is -

It is very simple. To generate time slow down yourself.

It does not make sense, because we all have learned that in 10 minutes if we have more speed we will travel more distance. If we slow down, decrease our speed than we will be able to do fewer things in same amount of time.

Lets understand -

Let me take you through my experience of slowness on mind. First let’s do one exercise, watch the clock for 10 seconds. Done? Now, again look at watch for 10 seconds with deep and slow breathing. Do you feel both the time duration were equal.

Most of the people (who would have really taken long breath) would have experienced that in later 10 seconds they had more thoughts, more clarity and more time actually.

A step further -

Let me take you one step deeper in mind. Our mind has extremely good ability to focus, in which it ignores many things to achieve its focused goal. We all must have gone through that moment when while reading or watching something we didn’t noticed someone entering room. Most of magicians and thieves work on this logic only. They create a distraction and as your mind and eyes turn, within seconds they switch something which you don’t notice.[1]

No, not working -

So, my mind burns energy to keep focus, and cuts out other things. But then focus is good, and still it is not clear how we generate time by slowing down.

When we slow down, we free up a lot of mind which was used in keeping focus and speed. Numerous studies have shown that we take regular breaks in office our efficiency improves. Sleep, a break from life, heals and energizes us.

Yes it does -

When we slow down, we are giving frequent break to our minds from speed and focus to improve its efficiency. You generate time and do more things in same 10 seconds.

Lessons from Bollywood - Ch1 Chak de

Bollywood has an indelible impression on all of us. We have seen it with mesmerized eyes in our childhood, probably as early as just seeing it as flickering images on screen. Or as a world of fascination as adult where our unmeasurable energy found the imaginative landscape to achieve unthinkable.

Few see it as art, analyzing it, trying to make sense of it, learning from it, but almost all of us learn something from movies, be it dialogues, possibilities, human interactions and even emotions.

Management lessons are also embedded in so many Hindi movies. Matters are not black and white only there are lot of contextual parameters, lot of grey matter. Still at the time of making a decision we have to cut down on few and take a call. Decision making is at core of management, and it cannot be put in few lines, pages or even books. Though this might be true, having some general guidelines help in taking decisions swiftly, without overthinking and stress.

This is an attempt to generalize management concepts from impressions already living in our mind, and provide loose framework for faster, stress-free decision making.

Chapter 1 - Chak de

The iconic movie Chak de, which still resurges whenever their is any major sports event of India. Its songs are passion generators for years now.

Lets dive straight to the management lesson we are searching, and it is one of the dialogue of superstar Shahruk Khan. "Is team ko sirf woh players chaiye jo pehle India ke liye khel rahe hain, India ... phir apni team mein apne saathiyon ke liye ... aur uske baad bhi agar thodi bahut jaan bach jaye toh apne liye ... state government ki naukri ya railway flat ke liye nahin"

Taking time back more towards school days, i remember the Gandhiji Talisman given on first page of NCERT book, where Gandhji says, "I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man [woman] whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him [her]."

These two excerpts give us our first lesson - Whenever in doubt think consequences of your decision for your organization, then for your team and in the end for yourself.

It instantly stirs a thought that what about my personal growth, in todays fast moving world professionals have to ensure their personal growth which might cause change of organizations also. So how in this scenario, keeping organization will contribute in my personal growth.

Though in bollywood Aamir Khan is never casted with Sharukh Khan, lets borrow a thought from 3 idiots. "Success Ke Peeche Mat Bhaago, Excellence Ka Peecha Karo, Success Jhak Maarke Tumhare Peeche Ayegi."

So any organization growth will ultimately lead to your growth, though this indirect growth may seem to be slow. However, in comparison to only individual growth this will give you network, appreciation and also a name and recognition as part of winning team which only individual accomplishment will not provide. Take a look at man of the award giving to loosing team player in cricket. See the videos, think or ask them how much they cherish it. You will find your answer.

Crux, whenever in doubt take decision which is best for your organization, then for your team and in the end for yourself,  at the cost of oversimplification will help in faster and easier decision making in your daily professional life.

The plague of Equality

The most shallow thought which is shown as basic tenet of modern and intellect society is Equality.
It brazenly envelopes the beauty of life and kill opportunities for growth.

Samjdar

Who is 'Samajdar'?
Is it a person, who hears something and guess; or knows the other surrounding and leading thoughts of speaker.
This 'samajdari' comes from his own earlier experiences or his inferences from other partially similar experiences.

BUT what if a person is not able to judge or understand because he knows the various, uncountable, visible or invisible reasons might be behind that statement of speaker.
What if person is not ready to step in speaker's shoes with half knowledge.
He is not able to understand, because his mind is not trained to make inferences and judge with in seconds.
He is not even able to empathize, he is just in habit of being with people.

Just be there without any connection. A connection which might restrict you; or restrict you by way of supporting you.

Waiting for you

I don't want to open my eyes,
I am waiting to see you.
I don't want to say anything,
I am waiting to speak to you.
I don't want to hear anyone,
I am waiting to listen your voice.
I don't want to feel the touch,
I am waiting to hold you in my arms.
I don't believe in life,
I am waiting for you my life.

Decision in Dilemma

Decision in Dilemma

This is something we face in our corporate life daily. There is no best decision or correct decision, we take optimum decision based on fact that how much we can stretch today for future benefits.

There are various interests which we have to balance. There are various levels or different perspectives from which we can analyze a problem.

Quantifying these multi-dimensional issues to make a decision can be impossible or so much time consuming that it is not practically feasible for our daily decision making.

King of Bollywood has given us a mantra to overcome this dilemma. In movie Chak de, he says, i quote, “Iss team ko sirf woh players chahiye joh pehle India ke liye khel rahe hain… India. Phir apni team mein apne saathiyon ke liye aur uske baad bhi agar thodi bahut jaan bach jaye, toh apne liye”

So, when in dilemma think of any issues from 3 levels. First, is it beneficial for your organization. Then, will it help your team. Lastly, if you still have any choice left to make, then you can think about yourself.

Organization, team then you.

Nahi Karta

Tumhe laga main pyaar karta hu tumse,
pagal, main toh sirf dhayan rakh raha tha tumhara,
pyaar toh abhi shuru he nahi kiya tha.

Kya kabhi tumhare haath pakad ke,
aakho main aakhe daal ke,
apne dil kal haal sunaya tumhe,
Nahi na, kyuki pyaar toh abhi kiya he nahi tha.

Jab tum gussa ya pareshan hoti thi,
Toh kya tumhare charey ko hathoo main leke,
tumhare hoton pe ungli rakh ke chup karaya tumhe,
Nahi na, kyuki pyaar toh abhi kiya he nahi tha.

Jab tum mujhe se ladti,
toh kya tumhe jor se gale lagaya,
Nahi na, kyuki pyaar toh abhi kiya he nahi tha.

Bas dhayan rakhta tha tumhara,
achi lagti thi tumhari khushi,
aur tum usse pyaar samaj baithi.

Tha to, pyaar tha toh.
Par shayad dimaag kuch aisa jaal bun chuka tha,
ki mere dil ko yakin dila chuka tha,
ki ye bas kuch lamho ka hai.

aur tumhare dil ko chu ke, usse chodde du,
itni himat nahi thi,
isliye bas dhayan rakhta tha.
